Ways to Make Your Move a Success: Part One

With the new year officially here, many people are looking for ways to make a fresh start, whether that’s changing up their look or packing up their belongings and moving somewhere new. If you are someone who is planning to start a new chapter by moving, you may feel overwhelmed at first by everything you need to accomplish in order to make your move a success. Luckily, in part one of this series, we will provide you with a few tips that you can keep in mind to help make your move a little easier.

If you’re interested in selling some of your belongings before you move to a new home, you need professionals you can trust to get you the best value for each item. Set a Budget

One aspect of moving that is often overlooked is the cost. If you’re not careful, moving can quickly become a costly affair, especially if you plan to hire people to pack up your belongings and move your things to the new house. Before you start the process, consider calculating how much it will cost to move everything. After calculating the cost, determine if you’re willing to pay that price to move to your new home. If you’re not, consider making a list of all the services you can’t live without and going from there to help bring the cost down to a more reasonable number.

Donate, Sell, or Throw Out

Once you have an idea of how much it will cost to move to your new home, the next step is to start packing. Packing up your belongings can be a fun way to discover what items you’ve accumulated over the years, as well as give you the opportunity to eliminate some of the clutter. We recommend packing up your home one room at a time. This allows you to give each room the time it deserves. Additionally, by taking your time, you can more accurately determine what items you want to keep, donate, sell, or throw out. If you’re unsure which items you need to keep and which you should sell or donate, read our previous posts!

Take Pictures of Cords

There’s nothing worse than moving into a new home and unpacking your electronics, only to realize that you have no idea which cords go with which item and how they plug into the said item. It’s no secret that most electronics come with a variety of cords that need to be plugged in just right in order for your item to work, which is why we recommend taking photos of these items before you pack them. For example, if you have a TV that is connected to your DVD player and a soundbar, consider taking a photo of the cords and where they plug into your TV before you pack it all up. This will give you a photo to reference once you unpack all of your electronics. If you want to make your job even easier, consider labeling all of your cords with a piece of tape or putting them in separate bags so that you know exactly which electronics they go with.
